HIS Pt. 1 (released July 2011)
HIS Pt. 1 is a collection of meditative songs meant to soothe the spirit and facilitate a time of reflection. The album came about by way of some of my colleagues asking me if I'd be interested in donating some music as part of a charitable donation to Oaklawn Hospital in MI. The CD was made available to the chemotherapy department of the hospital (along with a number of other albums) for those receiving treatment to choose to listen to while receiving treatment if they so desired.
You can find the album on iTunes.
Below are all of the songs from the album for you to listen to along with some interesting facts about each.
1] Broken Menagerie
In this track I incorporated the sound of an old record spinning and wire noise to add to the solemn past-tense feeling of the music.
2] The Hare
Why on earth I felt like writing about a hare I have no idea, but I think in the end I captured the intense "squirrely" (is that a word?) aspect of the animal.
3] Healing Leaves
Totally inspired by the latter part of Revelation 22:2 from the ESV version of the bible which says "The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations."
4] Heavenly Lights
This was an old tune I did using FL Studio back when I had a Windows based computer (a long time ago) that I fixed up for the occasion.
5] Sun Shower
It rains almost every day for about an hour or two and then gets sunny again where I live during the summer; thus, the inspiration to write this song.
6] Upward
I wrote this one as a part of a meditation Podcast I did in the past. I remixed it and added some more instrumentation.
7] Laughing Me 2 Sleep
I didn't actually play this one. I wrote it note for note into my software as an experiment and liked the way it came out.
8] EIGHT
Inspired by Psalm 8:3-4 (ESV) which says "When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?"
9] NINE
Inspired by Psalm 9:1-2 (ESV) which says "I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High."
10] TEN
Inspired by Psalm 10:1 (ESV) which says "Why Do You Hide Yourself? Why, O Lord, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?" I imagined myself sitting on the jetty with the waves crashing around me pondering my past and where I am now while writing this one.
11] ELEVEN
I came up with the bass line and beginning part and could not, for the life of me, figure out how to put this one together until one night I simply hit record and improvised the rest.
12] TWELVE
Putting the piano aside for this one I just had some fun with the good ole synths in my toolbox while playing with the stereo image.
